Every valley makes way for a mountain to rise.
With school back in session and sports, homework, and activities in full swing, life is speeding up and the slow pace of summer is falling quickly behind us. While it’s great to be involved and active, we can easily get so busy that we forget to slow down and spend time with the One who loves us most.
As Christians, one of the most beautiful gifts God grants us is the opportunity for a personal, intimate relationship with Him—our Father.
Just like our earthly relationships with friends and family, we grow closer to God when we choose to spend intentional one-on-one time with Him. To draw near and abide in his wonderful presence, it’s essential to incorporate prayer into our everyday life.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
At any time of the day or night, we are able to bring our thanksgiving, joys, frustrations, problems and questions to Him. Prayer is how we’re able to have God on speed dial. Just as we would send a quick text to a friend or give a quick call to our parents, we can easily communicate with our Father by going to Him in prayer.
An even better reminder is that God has no expectations of us when we talk to Him. Our prayers don’t have to be formal or eloquent or incredibly long. Instead, we can treat prayer as an ongoing conversation with God, our good Father and loyal friend.
And the best part… we can pray about anything!
“Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises.”
When we’re feeling down or experiencing a difficult time… pray. When we’re happy and excited about something… pray. God’s listening ear and gracious heart are always prepared for anything you need or want to bring to Him. How sweet of a reminder is that, Kanakuk family?
No matter how busy life gets, we encourage you to become diligent in prayer. Spending one-on-one time with our Father fills us with his spirit and equips us to share his unconditional love with others. When it doubt, just pray it out!
If you’re ever experiencing a particularly difficult time and are finding it difficult to trust and go to the Lord in prayer, you can rest assured in the fact that God is present, even throughout pain. Joe White, president of Kanakuk memories, gives more encouragement on that foundational truth below.
